IS GOODDAY CHOCOLATE MILK HEALTHY TO DRINK?
Goodday chocolate milk is a sweetened dairy beverage produced in Malaysia. Goodday is owned by the Susu Lembu corporation, which was established in 1968 as a milk distributor and now produces a variety of products, from chocolate milk to yogurt and fruit juices. While Goodday chocolate milk may not be as healthy as regular milk, it does provide some health benefits.
CALORIE CONTENT
Goodday chocolate milk is higher in calories than regular milk, which can make it beneficial for athletes and others with high calorie needs. One cup, or 240 ml, of Goodday chocolate milk contains 197 calories, which is higher than even whole milk, which provides 146 calories per cup. If you need to gain weight or fuel intense athletic events -- for example, swimming laps burns 511 calories per hour -- Goodday chocolate milk can be a good choice. If you are dieting, a lower calorie beverage would be optimal.CARBOHYDRATE CONTENT
Goodday chocolate milk is significantly higher in carbohydrates than regular milk, as it contains 26.4 g per cup, compared to 11 g in regular milk. Carbohydrates fuel your body for exercise, so this milk can be healthy for athletes, before and after exercise. A study published in the May 2011 issue of the "Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research" found that drinking chocolate milk after workouts could enhance recovery and improve performance in subsequent training sessions. However, Goodday chocolate milk is high in sugar, with 24 g per cup; the Harvard Medical School suggests that consistent consumption of high-sugar drinks may increase your risk of obesity.
PROTEIN CONTENT
Goodday chocolate milk provides 1 g less protein than regular milk, with 7 g per cup. Protein is an essential nutrient that promotes proper development and muscle gain, so consuming a higher protein beverage such as regular milk may be preferable to Goodday chocolate milk if you want to enhance your physique. Research from the February 2002 edition of the "Journal of the American College of Nutrition" suggests that high-protein diets can also accelerate your weight loss, in which case Goodday chocolate milk would not be ideal, as it is higher in calories and lower in protein than other beverages, such as skim milk.
FAT CONTENT
Goodday chocolate milk is slightly lower in fat than whole milk, as it contains 7 g per cup, compared to 8 g in whole milk. If you are following a low-fat diet, this may be preferable, although fat does tend to increase feelings of fullness, so a higher-fat beverage can be healthy. If you are on a low-fat diet, skim milk would be optimal, as it is fat-free
